המשרד לאזרחים ותיקים פועל לפיתוח תשתית הידע בנושא הזקנה ובכלל זה פועל לקידום מחקרים שונים בתחום והפצת ידע בנושא זה לאנשי המקצוע בתחום. בהתאם להחלטת ממשלה 5146 מיום 14.10.2012 קידם המשרד לאזרחים ותיקים את הצטרפות מדינת ישראל לארגון SHARE ERIC. בנוסף נקבע בהחלטת הממשלה הנל כי המשרד יהא אחראי לשלם לארגון דמי חברות (membership fee). דמי חברות שנתיים בארגון הינם 10,000 לשנה, החל משנת 2015.
